HOW TO USE THE SELF-TESTS

The test used is the SARS-COV-2 ANTIGEN RAPID TEST – KIT LEPU-MEDICAL.

The test indicates the viral load, i.e. whether the person being tested is contagious at the time of the test.

Individuals carry out the test on themselves, by means of a nasal swab.

Pupils in cycle 1 are to do the tests at home, with help from their parents.

From cycle 2 upwards, pupils will test themselves at school. Teachers will supervise, and give any instructions that may be necessary.

The self-testing kit that pupils will take home comprises :

  • 1 swab ;
  • 1 ampoule ;
  • 1 testing card ;
  • 1 set of instructions.

The kits used in schools will be distributed in boxes containing 25 kits, each containing one swab, one testing card and two ampoules.

The test is carried out in the following stages :

  1. Read the instructions the first few times the kit is used.
  2. If the test is carried out at school: Write the pupil’s first name on the testing card (with the initial of the child’s surname if necessary to avoid any confusion in the class; alternatively, write the number allocated to the pupil by the class teacher).
  3. Put the end of the swab into the nose, following the nasal septum (the separation between the two nostrils), until the cotton end of the swab is no longer visible (a depth of about 2 cm).
  4. Rotate the swab 5 times in each nostril.
  5. Place the swab in the notch on the testing card.
  6. Use scissors to cut off the end of the ampoule and squeeze 6 drops of the solution onto the swab. If the test is carried out at school, the teacher will pass through the class to apply the drops.
  7. Rotate the swab twice from right to left, then twice from left to right.
  8. Close the card. The teacher will tell the pupils where to put their cards (pupils should not look at the results themselves).
  9. Throw all the packaging in the bin.

During testing, the testing card should be kept horizontal.

The person supervising the testing:

  1. sets the timer to 15 minutes ;
  2. after 15 minutes, looks at the results of the tests (the result remains valid for 15 minutes) ;
  3. enters all the class’s results in the reporting tool (number of tests handed out, number of tests carried out, negative and positive results) ;
  4. reports the results to the class.

Explanation of the results of the tests :

  1. Positive = two purple strips
  2. Negative = one single purple strip.
  3. Not valid = no purple strip; one single blue strip; one blue strip and one purple strip.

If a result is not valid, the instructions should be re-read carefully and the test repeated using a new self-testing kit.
