In my thesis I discuss the mother-daughter relationships in a number of graphic
memoirs by women, published predominantly in the last decade. The decision to look
at the medium of the graphic memoir/novel is based on its distinctiveness, that the
combination of word and image offers a rich and complex area for analysis, and the
rapidly increasing importance of the graphic novel in English. This latter point
includes a shift from subculture to mainstream which links with the time period...
